What is a decent external microphone to use with a Canon Vixia HV30?

I have a Canon Vixia HV30 and use it to record singing / guitar playing. Unfortunately, I get a much clearer sound when singing into my computer's condenser microphone. I am interested in buying a microphone so I am able to record with little background noise. Money is not really a concern but there is no need for a professional microphone, just a good consumer microphone. What would you suggest?

SM57 isn't a condenser, but it's industry standard for cheap microphones. They are about $99.00 at wherever you choose to buy it at. Condenser mics pick up a lot from it's diaphragm. Since you are looking for recording a guitar and voice I would say look for a Large diaphragm microphone. SM57 is alright for what you're looking for. You can't achieve great mic techniques unless you work on mic position. Try leaning a mattress into a corner and setting your microphone up in front to achieve a more absorbent sound.
