I regret buying this thing.

The sound is poor. The speakers pick up all of the background noise but not much of the subjects it’s supposed to pick up. Microphone scuff sounds are very common, even though I take care to keep my fingers away from the microphone.

Video is fairly good but only in the brightest light conditions. With indoor lighting the video has washed out colors and poor resolution. The only thing that’s high definition is the huge file size. Motion is pretty choppy. Panning or filming moving subjects produces motion problems. The camera performs at its best when filming objects that are perfectly still or move like a snail.

Still photos are terrible. They are about as bad as cell phone photos.

The software is very limited and not intuitive. I hope I can find a 3rd party editor that is compatible with Panasonic’s AVCHD.

The menu system is good. The touch screen works well. It’s easy to select & play back videos. If the camera recorded video & audio quality matched the camera’s appearance and interface, I’d be pleased. Unfortunately, the video & audio quality is so poor that I am Very disappointed with my purchase.

I would advise a friend to avoid this video camera. A cheap pocket camera that also takes video could do better than the Panasonic HDC-TM20K.

My Wife and I purchased this item for our Son’s birthday. He absolutely Loves the Camcorder and, loves the quality of videos and still pictures.

This is the first camcorder I have bought in many years, and I am really pleased with it; especially since I was able to get it from Amazon for only $306. My last camcorder was the old VHS-C, so the internal and flash memory is fantastic! It’s very easy to use and seems perfect for a novice, like myself, for capturing the family memories. All and all I am please and have no remorse for this purchase.

The only minor complaint I have is that I went the “Free Saver” shipping Amazon offers. It was not delivered by the day they stated and when I called they couldn’t tell me exactly where it was other than it had left their building. I was told if it wasn’t delivered like 10 days after the anticipated date that I could call back and they would reship another one overnight. Next time I will likely pay a little more for a faster service.
