Awesome camera for the price
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this camera to take videos of my son and maybe do a little bit of amateur filming as well. To start this camera is very small. It literally can fit in the palm of your hand. The LCD screen is nice but at times can make it hard to view what you are recording. The video that gets recorded is pretty good. I have noticed at times that when I zoom in and out the picture gets blurry. I have not been able to try the HDMI video quality on my TV because my regular HDMI cable does not fit the video cameras HDMI slot. All in all this is a pretty good camera for the purpose of shooting home videos. The video files come in a format that allows you to edit them fairly easily.

Still undecided
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Had to write a review because I am hoping that someone with experience on this camera might email me and help me out. I played back the video I took on my TV. I have a 52″ Samsung HDTV. I connected the SMX-K40 to the AV inputs using the cable that was attached. Maybe I need to use HDMI cabling, but the quality was awful. Really awful to the point of somewhat out of focus. Now, I did definitely notice the problem that someone else ementioned about when the focus goes in and out it gets blurry. I think it is actually pretty bad on this camera. But if I can get over that, I just want a clear picture and don’t think I have that. While I am sure the HDMI cable will help with quality (or I would expect it to), why would I not get sharp quality (not blurry or grainy) just with standard cabling like I would with any other camcorder?

The screen is definitely very small but then again, so is the whole camcorder. The control button takes a little getting used to because I found myself pushing it in when I only meant to nudge it left or right. It’s a little hard to control.

Anyone have an idea on the picture quality problem? IndyMustang1969@yahoo.com

Better Camera the second time around
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Purchased this camera for an important family trip. First camera was bad and was not able to bring it with me. Amazon quickly replaced it for me with a new one that worked just fine but could not get the replacement until I came back. The issue was with the auto focus feature, or lack of. Using the zoom even the slightest made the picture so blurry it was not even viewable. The replacement camera seems to work just fine(for now). It is a new model and have not found many reviews for it. I will keep this one since it is working fine and the price was right.
