This compact, large and constant F2.8 aperture zoom lens and is ideal for digital SLR cameras. Two SLD elements and four aspherical lenses provide the ultimate correction against distortion as well as all types of aberration, especially spherical aberration. Its advanced optical design ensures high performance throughout the entire zoom range. The use of aspherical lenses in the construction of this lens not only corrects aberrations but also produces a very small and lightweight lens design. Its compact, yet robust, construction has an overall length of 87.2mm (3.4in.), maximum diameter of 74mm (2.9in.), filter size of diameter 67mm and weight of 510g(18.0 ounces). more info

Not what I expected

You get for what you pay…The lens is not sharp at all, even at higher F values. To closer you get to 2.8 the most you notice vignetting in the four corners of the photo and I judge this based on the fact I use a full frame camera, might not be the same with a 1/2 frame. The lens petal hood would not align perfectly (at least on my model) and I think this is a problem because it is noticeable on my pics. I love the material and the feel of the lens but I just couldn’t use it for the type of photography I do.

Horrible AF with most cameras
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I’ve tried two copies of this lens. I’ve used it on D300, D200, D90, D60. It focuses best for me on the D90 but is still pretty soft. I haven’t been able to get acceptable results with auto focus using the D200 at all. Even manually focusing this lens is still not sharp at any aperture. Not just soft for a cheap lens, better pictures can be taken with a kit 18-55 all day with AF. The bodies I tried it with don’t have focusing problems with any other lenses. Definitely not a keeper.

I tried it at an outside wedding first. Thankfully I was shooting two bodies and made sure I got all I needed with the other camera. I got maybe 5-10 usable shots for the entire day with this lens. I tried it in low light at a concert where it didn’t fare any better even manually focusing(of course). Even with the low price tag, its just not worth it. I can take better pictures with most any point and shoot.
