Beware – Poor quality! “Lens Error”
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We purchased two of these cameras for our daughter. Both failed, after only a few months, with a ‘lens error’ — the camera is worthless. Shame on us for buying two. This problem is not covered under warranty. My advice is to look for a different brand.

decent camera for a decent price
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I bought this to replace my old canon powershot. The canon was built tough, not sure why it started to get a purple haze across the top of the pics but it’s too much $$ to repair vs. replacing it. So I bought the ex-s5 last minute before we left for vacation. The pics are nice but it gets tricky in less than optimal light. Although it has the best shot or easy mode…..it doesn’t always work like it’s supposed to. Indoor receptions etc.. low light, I switch to sensitive instead of the actual low light best shot. The colors would be “off” at times and i usually do some slight adjustment to the color before printing them. The picture does come out clear even if you do zoom and crop so that’s a plus. It is light and portable. I agree that the battery/card cover is cheap plastic so be careful. Overall, it served as a last minute replacement well enough, but in hindsight I think I might have looked for something a little more. i.e. 5x optical zoom and some sort of digital zoom with it…..also would’ve like a manual mode for quick pics without the “lag” for the quick shots

The Best Camera EVER!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am REALLY happy with my camera! I really love all the different features. I especially enjoy the slim shape; it can fit into your pocket. The LCD screen on the camera is very big. I love the fact that you can take a video, and while taking it, you can zoom and take pictures. I love the recording feature, where you can record a conversation. I love the start up picture and the sounds when you turn on the camera, and when you take a picture. I really like the fact that you can dub on the picture. Before I got my camera (about 3 months ago) I’ve been researching which one to get. After researching for a few months, and picked this camera, I have been so thrilled. My friend got the other camera that I wanted to get, the Fuji-film Z30. I was looking at hers and mine, and although I like hers, I like mine SO MUCH BETTER!! The only negative I found, although it is not so bad, is when taking a picture of/by yourself, I find the zoom button is very flimsy/moves very easily. So if I am taking a picture, in the middle, I might accidentally turn the zoom button and the picture will “suddenly” zoom in/out. But that is only a side complaint because it doesn’t happen very often. I also like the feature “Anti Shake”. If I am taking a picture and by accident move my hand in the middle of taking it, the picture will still come out clear!! I LOVE my camera, I am so happy I picked this one vs. any other brand.

My Second Casio with even more Oomph!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am giving this 5 stars initially. So far it is an awesome little camera, lightweight, highly functional with even more features than my previous the 7.2mp EX120. This camera takes a lithium ion battery and I like it, much easier to recharge and it holds a charge longer than the AA batteries in my previous model. I am going on vacation soon to the mountains and intend to put this to the test. I will have a detailed report soon. Stay tuned for Part 2……

PART 2 08/10/2009 Back from vacation, camera performed flawlessly in all sorts of conditions. Took around 140 pics. I explored a multitude of settings and they all worked well. The self timer was great for shots where my son and I wanted in together…4 settings on that up to 10 second delay. I used the auto exposure, with some of my own settings, but not the Easy mode…I find it to be too easy..I like to vary the settings especially the ISO…The noise that some people mention is a non issue in my book..not enough to worry about. For the money in a 10MP camera, you can’t go wrong with this gem.

12/6/2009-With the advent of digital cameras, as in so many other electronic items in the 21st century..the quest for perfection has been staggering. Every camera company dueling for the smallest, lightest, most megapixels, etc etc;. Just like receivers, and televisions and DVD players, etc; the bar is raised daily. Each time we buy a new piece of equipment it seems like they are already about to release the next version , which is even better! With these things in mind. I personally like Canon , Nikon, Minolta, Fujica, Olympus etc; the companies who have been around the longest. However…Casio , Sony etc; have come on in recent years with very good cameras and electronics. My point is , that with so many millions of cameras being sold yearly and with all the technology and micro electronics piled into one tiny camera, occasionally you might get one that does not function right. I would not let this sway you in your purchase. These things happen with every one of the manufacturers. You should be alert within the warranty period for any items that

don’t seem right and while you may be without it for a short period, it will be fixed.

Flaky operation, but I’ll keep it
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
My main problem is that sometimes this camera just freezes. For example, when I am switching from “rec” view (take a picture) to “view” look at shots. The lens is supposed to retract, but it just freezes.

The only fix I have found is to remove the memory card and re-insert it. Then press the (TINY) power button. That fixes the lens, but then I get an error message telling me to repower again. The second try works.

So is this the camera software, or some glitch in the camera-memory card hardware?

I also have a problem remembering which button to push to get to the flash adjustment. I often want to turn the flash off or use redeye reduction.

Great concept but poor construction.
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This camera has some really great features and awesome quality photos. You can even shoot videos while simultaneously taking pictures. Your videos will have a little pause where you took photos but it works out pretty well. The big problem I had was its build. It feels cheaply constructed which is understandable at the price. What wasn’t understandable is a random lens error I had one week into having my camera. Typically, lens errors occur when something is obstructing the lens from poking out in which case it retracts and tells you, but I had a lens error when I turned it off and the lens couldn’t retract in. It was stuck halfway so I gave it the slightest nudge to help out. It worked out a few more times like that, until my light nudge would no longer work. It would get stuck halfway and require more force, which is obviously bad for the camera but there was no other possible way of having it retract. Maybe I just got a faulty camera because it never incurred any heavy blows or anything remotely close to damaging it but it is now unusable because the lens has failed. Otherwise, I’d totally recommend it, so I’d suggest getting a warranty on this to be safe.

I had really high hopes for the this cute little camera. I was, however, really unhappy

with the picture quality. It’s not even a little bad, it’s REALLY bad.

I read all the other reviews before I purchased it, and thought it’d be a great purchase.

Kinda makes me wonder if they were legit reviews, because I can’t be the only one

who noticed how bad the picture quality was.

Review of Casio Exilim replacement camera
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This replaced an older Exilim model that was much better. This one does not have a docking station to recharge the battery and must be removed. Also, when I remove the camera from my pocket the battery door almost always comes open. I’m sure it will break one of these days soon.

The focus on this model is not as good as my old one and takes horrible shots when zoom lens is used.

This is not the camera I was expecting and stayed with Casio because I loved my first one (Had to replace it because the lens quit functioning correctly) I saved it and still may have it repaired.

Casio is one of the few cameras that doesn’t use AA or AAA batteries which will never do when traveling.

Casio needs to make many improvements and look at their older cameras and perhaps change back.

Casio Exilim EX-S5
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Pros: very thin, lightweight, but a little wider than my last Casio Exilim EX-Z80.

Cons: Too much navigating to get around in the menus. Slow memory. Forget about clicking 1 picture after another within a second. Sometimes its quicker for me to power off and on, to get another picture, because the lens seems to pause, zoom in out after taking a picture. I replaced my last Casio Exilim EX-Z80 after just 3 months because the power button kept turning on and off when in my pocket, and then the lens got stuck with a lens error message. Google it, its a common problem with this camera, and numerous people are selling these broken on Ebay. The fix is $50. I have a feeling Im going to run into the exact same issue with this camera too because the power-on button is really sensitive, not to mention tiny. Im the type that replaces Electronics frequently, so I never read the manuals…. the navigation is a bit annoying, Im going to have to read the manual for this camera. Hope this helps. In all honesty, if I could get my money back, Id trade this in for a Canon SD780IS, or even a Minox, Im not too impressed with this at all.

Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I used this camera for work. I put the pictures into reports and need to have smaller picture sizes; so i use the 2M/Normal setting which gets me roughly a 120k picture per shot. I have had to purchase a different camera because this one does a terrible job in anything other than a very bright setting. The low(or moderate) light level pictures are all too dark and are almost unusable. I have found that by changing the EV setting to +1.3, it will brighten the pictures, but you need to reset this value everytime you turn the camera back on, so it’s pretty painful if you turn the camera on and off often, like i do. I realize this camera is priced fairly reasonable, but i believe you can find a better camera for the money.

I gave this camera as a birthday gift to my wife. We both love the little digicam. She needed a very compact camera to fit in her purse, but she also wanted zoom capability and excellent image quality. The credit card-sized exilim gave her everything she wanted. My wife ignored the instructions. She just switched the thing on and started taking pictures. It really is that easy to use. 5-stars all around.

I had a previous Casio Slim & I only needed to sit the entire camera in the charger for the battery or to upload pictures. With this new one, the battery has to be taken out of the camera & put into its own charger. It’s just not convenient & it leaves room for forgtting to put the battery back in the camera before taking it out.

great camera to simply toss in your pocket or purse. Image quality is great for a point and shoot. If there is one con, I would say the battery life leaves a little to be desired, as it can quickly run down. However there are several third party batteries here on Amazon that work great with it, and are cheaper than the Casio brands.

Very Happy with New camera/No longer so happy
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I just ordered this camera, and received it the night before Thanksgiving. After reading the review’s others have posted, I was very scared I had bought a dud and would be unsatisfied with this camera. I am a photographer at heart and am extremly picky about my camera’s. I had issue’s with Casio’s customer service with my previous camera, and that kind of detoured me when picking a new camera. But I love the rechargeable battery and not having to always buy new batteries for the camera. I am all around very happy with this camera, and would recommend it to any one else. The price is cheap and i think the camera is great for the price. I so far am very pleased with the product!

Sorry all but as I said before I didn’t have this camera for very long, when i posted my first review. I am currently in the process of returning this item. Someone else had said that the camera automatically shuts off while you are trying to take picture’s and I am currently experiencing that issue. And not only that but the battery doesn’t last for any more then twenty photo’s irregardless of how long or how short of a time the camera is left on. I am totally unsatisfied with this product. And please people read review’s and trust other people’s opinions before buying this product.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have this camera (an older model) and I take it to bars, on vacation, parties and I have been pretty rough with it and never broke it, nor ran out of memory or power and I have had it for approximately 3-4 years. My mother recently wanted to borrow mine and I was like, “NO WAY” so I am buying her her own for vacations and excursions out and about. It is pretty indestructible and idiot proof so I won’t have to explain much to her, “point, push this button…” I like that, she is pretty low tech, I don’t think she will ever take video with it, but that is a nice new feature mine doesn’t do, but she could use that (if she figures it out). All in all I like my old one enough to get her one, and friends have commented on how I have hung mine around my wrist out in a street party and taken phenomenal candid pictures that look professional. With an 8 gig memory card I take the pics at 1080p and crop and take out red eye in photo shop and sometimes have no need of even that. It’s a great little camera for little money and you don’t have to worry about breaking it if you don’t pay a lot for it so… Start taking pictures now!

Can’t record 720p video: Amazon details incorrect.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
A lot of Casio’s EX series of camera’s can record video at 1280x720x24 fps (720p) but the EX-S5 cannot. The max resolution for the S5 is 848x480x30fps. The details on Amazon’s listing are incorrect. Because there are camera’s in this price range that do record 720p video, I’ll be returning this sweet little number and getting one of those instead.

This is third Casio model we own. Really cool color. Was delivered quickly and we used it right away. The quick record button is great for shooting videos but didn’t always start up or stop unless you really hit the button hard. We did miss some shots and get some extra footage of feet after the shot. But we DO LIKE the ability to take a picture in the middle of the video though:) Love that this model can charge the battery outside of the camera and not on a dock anymore like my first model. Still get blurry photos though with the limited zoom. Definitely pleased otherwise and would recommend for a point-and-shoot type camera.

Amazing camera, I might get another one
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love this camera. If I broke this camera, I’d buy another one immediately, I like it that much.

I bought it because I needed a cheap camera that I could keep in my pocket, and the “nice” one I bought a couple years ago was pretty bulky. After taking a few pictures with this, the quality was so much better than the pictures from my “nice” camera, that my “nice” camera is now a paperweight.

This camera takes about 250 pictures with the flash on. I got a Kingston 8 GB SDHC Class 4 Flash Memory Card SD4/8GB for it, which is about 1500 high-quality pictures, so I bought a couple CTA Digital DB-CANP80 NP-80 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery (850mAh, 3.6V) Replacement for Casio NP-80 Battery’s to go along with it. I was mad at first that it has a proprietary battery, but it ends up working out pretty well.

It appears to have a 4 GB limit on video, which is about an hour of video.

This Camera Sucks
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This was my first Casio purchase, and my last! The camera developed a “lens error” within a couple of weeks of purchase. Casio says that this error is caused by user and not covered under warranty. They want $79 to repair a camera worth $100. Very poor quality, for now on I’ll be sticking with Nikon.

NOTE: Casio says lens error was caused by either dropping camera or by camera powering on while still in case, etc. The camera wasn’t dropped and I kept it in a case with the battery out. It couldn’t have powered on while in the case. Google search and you’ll find this camera has a lot of “lens error” problem, which more than likely indicates its a POS that Casio doesn’t want to take responsibility for. Stay away from this camera unless you like throwing money away.

A great feature of this camera is that it has a separate button for recording videos. This also enables you to snap still photos while videoing. 3x optical zoom is actually greater for settings less than 10MP by utilizing the imager. At 4 MP you actually get 4.7x before digital zoom kicks in, and 640×480 videos you actually can zoom it to 17.1x before digital zoom, as long as you have VGA size selected. You may have nosebleed seats but your videos will look like they’re taken from the front row if you can hold the camera steady.

Picture quality is fine, battery life great, and unlike some other cameras at this price, it does retain it’s time/date settings when the battery is removed. Menu is very easy to navigate. Also, it is very small and portable.

Great Camera If You Get One That Works
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought this camera a week ago and love it. The images are sharp; the video is fantastic; and the interface is super simple. It is also very thin and fits nicely in your pocket. The downside came the weekend after I bought the camera. I was using at a birthday party for kids and my wife wanted to use it while I stepped out for a moment. When I returned she said that the camera was broken. Apparently, for no reason, when she tried to power on the camera the lens extended and then there was a buzzing sound and the camera then turned off and displayed an “Lens Error” message on the LCD. I took the camera back to where I bought it and exchanged it for a second camera. I hope this was just a flook but there is quite a bit of information on the Web about this exact problem with other Casio models. I plan to enjoy this fine camera and keep my fingers crossed that I got a dud the first go around. If it breaks again during my 90 window to return it to the store, I am going to get a refund and look into a Canon or Nikon.

This camera is delicious! Sleek design, beautiful color, great picture quality. I am not a photographer and I generally don’t take an obscene amount of pictures, so this model suits my needs perfectly; you can’t get anything better for the price. The “best shot” options are really awesome. (I use the “food” and “magazine” ones a lot and they really do help you take the best pictures possible.) It scratches easily, even if you take care of it, so please make sure you get a case.

This got to be better than our 5-year old Canon that just died. Big mistake. Took it to our holiday vacation and it managed to ruin more than half of our pictures. I’ve tried every setting possible. Manual and automatic. Nothing worked consistently. Picture quality seemed like a random event. Sometimes it would look great. Sometimes nothing could make it half decent.

Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this camera a bit over a month now and it takes great pictures whether day or night. It is very easy to understand and operate. The on/off button is a bit tricky. It takes great movies as well except that I can’t seem to get the volume right whenever I’m recording from a concert (with extremely loud music in the background). This can be unbearable when you’re reviewing the movie/video clip and the sound is not really clear. *perhaps someone can tell me how to set the volume correctly before recording a movie clip*

Buy this camera if you’re looking for something really simple without much complications. It is very slim and can slip into your handbag easily. Great camera overall!!
