These affordable models are sure to be a hit with users who want high image quality regardless of their budget. The 12-megapixel FE cameras boast up to 5x super wide optical zoom for great panorama shots or close-ups of distant subjects. The three top models look especially striking thanks to a double layered crystal shell finish. In addition, they all offer a practical AF tracking feature which ensures that even moving subjects are in focus at all times. Also on board are advanced Face Detection technology and the i-Auto mode, which automatically identifies five commonly-encountered types of scenes and adjusts settings accordingly. Two of the FEs even offer innovative Magic Filters for a new level of creativity. more info

Not Happy With Pictures At All
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Awful camera. We returned this after trying really hard to like the camera. At first I thought it was because I was just use to out Kodak camera, so I kept trying different settings and taking multiple pictures. Most pictures were of my daughter and granddaughter and the camera was slow to take the picture, blurry and dark. We were looking to upgrade from our Kodak 8 mp to a 12 mp because we felt the Kodak wasn’t taking as good of pictures as we thought it should after it got wet (totally our doing). I even went as far as to say that maybe the prints would turn out better than it looked on the computer, um, no. When I got my prints and was looking at them as I came across one that was crisp and bright I realized that it was from our old camera not the new one, so we returned it.
Too much plastic

Very cheaply made feels like a kids toy camera. Returned it and bought a different one.
Steer Clear!!

Hands down awful camera. Why Olympus would even put this on the market is a mystery to me. Very poor display quality, photo quality is better on my 6mp Nikon CoolPix of 5 years ago!! It feels cheap in all areas. All buttons and casing, Very lightweight and flimsy. This is not a camera I would recommend to even a beginner. We returned the camera fairly soon after testing it out. Great price.. sure… total waste of every cent though…so BUYER BEWARE!!! Steer Clear of this one…
Only buy for a child

I bought this camera for my wife, and we were very disappointed by the picture quality. It’s true, you get what you pay for…
Great price, poor picture quality

My daughter wanted to have a camera for herself for this Christmas. I went over digital cameras all over the internet and found the best prices in Amazon. Then I found the Olympus FE-400 with 12mp for less $[...]! I had one Olympus camera before with which I had a great experience. It took great quality pictures, performed flawlessly and it even worked underwater. So I didn’t think about it twice when I saw the price for this Olympus camera.
Now I see the reason why it is so inexpensive. I even have an argument that my Nokia N95 8g’s 5mp camera takes better quality pictures.
Fortunately for me, this camera is not the family camera, it is my daughter’s camera who is 6 years old and at least I know she will be happy with it.
My recommendation is, buy a Nikon or Canon camera. These have proven to me to be the best cameras out there, and I have had several cameras throughout the years to know what I am talking about.
Current owner of a Nikon D90 and Canon PowerShot A1000 IS
Dissapointed

I was excited to get this camera because the reviews seemed pretty good. I was disappointed in the picture quality and would have sent it back but needed it for vacation right away. The video is not very good and most pictures seem fuzzy and have lighting issues. It does have quite a few settings and I may be able to get some better pictures but I wanted a decent point and shoot. This wasn’t it. It does have some pros. I like the lithium battery, the screen is nice and clear, the menu is fairly easy to navigate, the video uses Windows Media Player not Quicktime like a lot of cameras, and it’s nice and slim so it fits in a pocket well. Not enough to make me reccomment it though.
its ok.

I bought this camera to replace my old one for a concert i was going too.it takes pretty good pictures in the daylight but in a dark arena the pictures turn out grainy no matter what settings you use.overall its a pretty good camera.
Could use one extra mode in scenes

This is a very nice camera-especially for under $90. One thing I failed to check before purchasing is the various scene modes. Unfortunately, living in Florida requires a mode for Beach scenes, and this doesn’t appear to have one-but it does have many others. The display is quite good and compares well to the Canon A590IS. The on-screen menu is good-fairly intuitive. The instruction manual is available on disc (provided) or can be downloaded and saved from the Olympus site (pdf). You do not need the proprietary imaging software provided-Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa does just as well. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery appears to hold its charge very well-it is not rechargeable in the camera, but comes with a swivel wall plug charger and is easy to use. Battery removal/insertion is easy. Haven’t used the micro SD adapter yet, so can’t comment on that. The camera is described as “dark gray”, but is actually clad in a highly reflective- almost mirror like-finish. It does show fingerprints as a result, but they are easily avoided by being careful or removing with a semi-damp cloth. It was a good purchase for the money. Olympus seems to make a very good product, both build in terms of build and image quality.
OK camera

Bought this camera for the wide lens…picture quality not as good as my old Canon. Should have bought the Canon Rebel SLR camera….bt for the price, it’s not bad.
I love this camera, no matter what the others said…

I happened upon this camera purely by accident at a local store as I has planned to purchase a different brand camera. The other brand was the same price but 10 megapixels versus this one’s 12 and had fewer features. One of the reviewers commented on the lack of a beach setting, being in Maine this is less of a concern but I was impressed by the wide range of other point and shoot selections as well as the ability to choose from seven different camera speeds. The price is great when you also factor in the fact that it comes with a rechargeable li-ion battery and charger unit. All in all I am very impressed with the camera and the photos it takes. I have not had any issues with poor picture quality, everything is crisp and clear.
great camera

Don’t waste your money

I’m a college student and by no means am I a professional photographer. However, the first thing I noticed about this camera was the awful picture quality. The camera itself is equipped with a appreciable number of settings but none of them seem to affect the quality of the picture! What use is a 12MP camera if the vibrancy of the colors of the scene being taken is crappy quality? The video setting does not have sound and the flash is concentrated in one area rather than lighting up the entire scene. Photos taken in a dark setting are awful even when on the indoor setting. The one good thing about this camera is the thin width and light weight: two qualities that make the camera manageable and able to be carried around with ease.
Overall, I was so disappointed with the camera that I actually returned it. I will definitely not be gambling with an olympus camera again.
Poor Picture Quality

Very poor picture quality with this camera, you might think you’re saving money buying this one instead of a nicer model for 30-50 dollars more but you sacrifice a ton of quality — don’t buy this one.
Great Camera

I have used Olympus cameras in the past without any complaints. This camera holds up to our expectations. The picture quality is amazing. The scene modes perform well, but we don’t use them that often, we prefer to point and shoot with the auto-mode. This camera is replacing a 3MP nikon coolpix, that finally wore out. Just remember when you buy this camera, it is a pocket sized digital camera for around $100. Don’t expect to be taking photos for National Geographic!! It is a great little camera
