how is the sigma sd14 camera for black and white?
i am looking to buy a 2nd hand digital camera and am very attracted to the sigma sd14.(i have read all the downsides and there isn't anything that has really put me off). i take all my pictures in black and white and i want to know if there is anyone who has used this camera for black and white, if you are happy with it, and how it compares to other digital cameras for this. thankyou.
i am new to digital btw so any other handy tips on shooting b&w in digital would be appreciated! cheers.
The Sigma SD14 is a superb camera, those Foveon sensors are very highly regarded.
As for B&W work, I would recommend shooting in colour then converting to B&W afterwards using Photoshop or other editing software. I shoot in colour film and then use CS3 with a plugin called Silver Efex Pro for conversion to B&W. This way I have the option of either B&W or colour, whichever works better for the image.
Learning how to manipulate a colour image into a good B&W image takes a bit of practice and is certainly worthwhile. Do not bother switching your camera to shoot B&W (monochrome), the results are nowhere near as good as if you use specialist software such as the plugin I mentioned earlier.
