Is there a digital video camera that takes pictures as well? Can anyone recommend a good (inexpensive) brand?
This may be a dumb question but I know very little about camcorders. I basically would like to make videos as well as take digital pics. I have a hard time understanding the descriptions when shopping for video cameras and I can't figure out if it can take pix as well. Do most camcorder take digital photos or would you have to buy the digital camera and video camera seperately??
I have a Panasonic DMC-FX07. It does both. you can adjust the quality. On it's low setting recordings are ready for youtube. On high it's good for TV. Most digital cameras you will find on the shelf will do it now. I love being able to have a camera and recorder in one device that fits in my pocket. It's going for about $180 now.
If you get one make sure it has it's own built in rechargable battery. that helps a lot.
If you go to a store look at the cameras in the middle of the shelf. not the cheapest and not the most expensive either. I'm sure you will find something in the mid range level that is just right.

Hi! I have a digital camera canon A2000 IS. Now I want to get a digital video camera for nearly 350-450 $. What would you advise?
Hard drive camcorders are not, the best option, they suffer if exposed to vibration, the heads (in the hard drive) will park, (stop working) and the recording process will stop. the length of time it takes to get the drive to spin up (start) and altitude. in severe cases this can actually stop the drive working altogether.
your better option is a flash drive camcorder, few moving parts, increases battery life, if the drive becomes full then you can just put another one in, you do not have to carry your laptop with you, in case you fill up the hard drive. Many people try to get as much video on their camcorders, by reducing the quality, I cannot see the point in buying a high quality camcorder with the latest high definition, and then reduce the quality to get more on the drive. just get a couple of flash cards.
All the main companies produce good quality camcorders, IE Sony, Canon, Even JVC, but the model is down to personal preference, what suits you, you do not want small camcorder if you have large hands, or a big camera if you have small hands, you need to be able to reach the controls with out having to look. The best way is to get you hand on various camcorders and play with them.
Good luck
