Canon EF 70-200mm question by Matt H: Canon EF lenses: 70-200mm f/2.8L vs. 70-200mm f/4L IS?
Basically, my question is f/2.8 vs. f/4 IS.
Does one stop make much of a difference? In what types of situations would you use one lens over the other?
I can't decide... they are about the same price, too.
Thanks in advance!
Canon EF 70-200mm best answer:
Answer by Ricardo The f/2.8L on a tripod is better for indoor sports (but you need a camera with good subject tracking of course). Also it renders better blurred backgrounds due to larger aperture.
The f/4L IS is the sharpest zoom lenses ever made by Canon, very good for hand holding on low light, but a stop lower on shutter speed may make a difference on shooting fast moving subjects.
Both are great lenses.... I would prefer the f/4L IS due to better image quality and optical stabilization.

nikon lens cleaner wet cloth question by kazushi s: Is there something wrong with my 2 month old Nikon D300?
I noticed there's a tiny dirt on my 105mm so I decided to clean it eventhough im quite hesitant coz I've never cleaned a lens so delicate. I am petrified to 'destroy' my preciuos lens, at the same time, I dont want dirt to accumulate on it. So, I took the risk and borrowed a friends lens cleaning kit consisting of air blower (NOT the canned), micro-fiber cloth (if I remember it right), and a liquid of some sort that comes with it. Before I started, I even read some tips/procedure on the net on the proper way of cleaning lenses so as to do it perfectly. First, I blow the dust out. Next, I wet the cloth with the liquid , gently wipe the lens and dried it with a dry fiber cloth, put back the lens cover. After a couple of hours, while I was taking photos of flowers in a flower shop, I was SHOCKED to see this one photo: while the image was captured in full, the lower half of it was in purple or violet. I was terribly shocked that I immediately delete it. Some say its d flashcard. HELP!

Answer by Pooky Could you take another--and post it to http://www.flickr.com so we can see.
It should not have really affected the photo. Unless you smear it with Vaseline or something.
Did you have a UV filter to protect it? People will endlessly argue about the pro and the con of having a filter--and this is exactly the reason why I do--to protect it.

I have just built a nice new machine specs are as follows:
Intel dual core 3.2GHz
Sata 320 GB hard drive
Geforce 8800gt graphic card (512mb ddrr3)
2x 1GB DDR2 667MHz memory
Asrock 1333-D667 Socket 775 Motherboard
2 x Sata combo drives
all water cooled with Vista ultimate 32 bit
I am using a 4gb flash drive (29MB/s + speed) as ready boost
Yes I am one of those pc enthusiasts who are constantly changing and upgrading. I want to stick another stick of ram in my pc (4GB max motherboard will allow) I know vista ultimate will support up to 4gb as well. I am on the understanding that some of the memory will not show as this is used for system resources. My mate told me that as I am using 3 types of memory (flash, graphic, main) there will be conflicts and I should not use the flash drive either ! is he right? or can I add another stick. thanks
yes its water cooled as im entering the world of overclocking soon
I would suggest sticking with 2GB of RAM, however why did you go for a motherboard that only supports 667mhz DDR2? You would have been better off saving your money on the extra combo drive and the vista ultimate over home premium and the water cooling (ffs!) and getting a better board and faster RAM... maybe even the incredibly priced QX6600 quad-core processor... but that's just my opinion!
Anyway as I said, 2GB of RAM is all I would bother with - 4GB is a massive waste as a) with a 512MB video card and other system resources you'll only see 3GB of it anyway and b) no standard 32bit program can use more than 2GB of memory in total! (well not without workarounds anyway...) Windows Vista is quite good at memory management. I would also ditch the readyboost drive as these are only really effective when you have less than 1GB of ram installed. 3rdly i suspect your memory may limit the overclockability of your machine - as you haven't mentioned a brand i have to conclude you went with generic rubbish?
On the bright side your 8800GT should be excellent value - from what i've heard they're faster than the more expensive 8800GTS 640MB versions for less money and less heat production (equals more overclocking ability...)
