Rain forest in Costa Rica sounds exciting, but I think you will get less than optimal results if you rely on a camera that needs fairly good lighting in the dark rain forest.

You can get a flash, but I have found that the flash photos tend to look a bit too ordinary for my tastes. For best low light results, I like to use a combination of the B setting, holding the shutter open for 1-2 seconds with the flash. This gives you a frozen subject with a bit of jitter/blur in the subject and background from the existing ambient light. I'm not sure how pleasing this combination would work in the dark rainforest.

If you are also bringing another camera (digital or otherwise), then I would highly recommend bringing along the Diana Mini for fun and different looking photos.
